Selecting a suitable industrial or high-speed camera is critical for anyone design-
ing a machine vision or image processing system. However, the increasing
diversity of image sensors, cameras and their performance characteristics make
camera specification more challenging than ever.
To help, Vision Systems Design is publishing in this issue our fifteenth annual Worldwide Indus-
trial Camera Directory. The Camera Directory presents a listing of more than 100 camera vendors,
and key camera specifications for more than 1,000 different camera products.
Many of the camera vendors included provide data such as camera speed, sensor type and
format, as well as highlight the numerous standards available such as Gigabit Ethernet, Camera
Link, CoaXPress, and USB through which the cameras interface, which can aid in narrowing the
choices of cameras for specific applications.
I also want to invite you to participate in the fourth annual Vision Systems Design Innovators
Awards program, which has swiftly become an important initiative that encourages and recognizes
advances in the machine vision marketplace.
Organizations that demonstrate excellence in a product or technology, an application, or in
research and development are invited to submit an application for review. The awards will be pre-
sented in April 2018 at The Vision Show in Boston.
The program is the most economical way I can think of to be recognized as a leader and innovator to the largest collection of vision professionals in the world. It’s a great way to rise above the
competition, with credible, third-party validation that your product or technology, application, or
research has something unique and worthy of review. It’s excellent PR! Honorees will be able to
fully capitalize with announcements that enhance visibility within the industry. We even provide
a press-release template to use to promote your honoree status.
Proud recipients of the coveted Vision Systems Design Innovators Award can display it at their
booths at the show, and then bring it back to showcase in their lobby. Plus, they will be able to use
the 2018 Vision Systems Design Innovators Award logo in campaigns, on their website and in mar-
keting materials to reinforce their status.
There are just a few weeks left to finalize your entries. To save $100 on the admission’s fee with
the early-bird discount, be sure to start on or before November 21. That will also give you plenty of
time to finish by the final entry deadline.
I want to make sure you have the information you need to submit an entry (or two or three). You
can access some tips to help you complete a winning entry at http://bit.ly/VSD-TIPS.
Full program details, including instructions for submission, can be found at vision-systems.com/
innovators-awards.html. Please don’t hesitate to contact me at JohnML@Pennwell.com or (603)
